About Me!

I think I’ve been obsessed with Design all my life!

During my school days, I remember eagerly looking forward to the Sunday newspaper to get my hands on the interior design supplement before my younger brother got to it. We would both get a chance to read it but of course we would end up fighting on who would get to keep it! I think that’s when my magazine hoarding began.

When the time came to choose a career, I was confused. It never dawned on me then that I could follow Interior Design as a profession. Interior design just wasn’t available as an educational pathway and the employment opportunities were very limited.

I landed on Graphic Design, it was a popular option and felt right at the time. I don’t have any regrets, quite the opposite in fact, I became so much more visually literate and it really honed my creative skills. I graduated with Graphic Design and Visual Communication degrees from highly regarded schools in Greece and England.

Some of the standout lessons I still remember, a lecturer I had in Greece who really stressed the importance of “Principals and balance in Design”! In particular specifics such as the right letter spacing in words and how we should check the final result by half closing our eyes. He also stressed on how to design a balanced page by placing pictures and text in the right place. Those lessons continue to have an impact on me now, from taking a photo’s framing of the subject and how I see balance in space.

As soon as I was done with the Graphic Design and Visual Communication degrees I felt still hungry to learn more. I completed a masters degree in Computer Animation and got the opportunity to use those skills immediately working in London for some of the biggest names in the special effects industry on films such as Tomb Raider and Harry Potter.

It took a while for me to realise that Interior Design had always been under my skin.

In Feb 2012, my husband, our nearly 2 year old daughter and I moved to Austin to follow his career. I immediately fell in love with the city, the weather and the pace of life! It was perfect because I needed a career break to think and focus on what was going to happen next. Of course, I did not have a lot of  time on my hands as our second baby was on the way.

Once both kids were at school and I had some breathing space it was finally my opportunity to start thinking more seriously about interior design. I started taking evening classes on so many of the subjects I had been reading so much about over the years and with support from friends in the industry I was very fortunate to get some experience designing rooms for some of their clients.

If anyone asked me if I could go back and change anything on my career…. my answer would be “absolutely not!”. I’ve learnt so much and the journey has been perfect. I’ve loved every step of it!
