London Flat

In June 2005, I bought my first flat in London, the second floor in a hundred year old period conversion building. The flat needed so much work but it had some great features that with some work I knew could make it an exceptional space.

It took one very intense month to complete the job. All the walls and ceilings needed to be replastered as well as the bathroom and the kitchen. We had to move the location of the water heater to make the kitchen more useable. Finding the original Victorian fireplace had been boarded up was an amazing moment, it was in great condition and really helped bring the living room together.

It was a lot of work but so worth it, I particularly enjoyed the process of trying to maximise space in the small flat, designing a functional kitchen, shopping for all the materials and scheduling the various jobs, contractors and deliveries. I was so fascinated that I couldn’t stop cataloging the process as it all came together!

Once the inside was complete I started to really enjoy some of its other qualities, the flat stood on the crest of a hill with amazing views of the historic Alexandra Palace from the bedroom window and was walking distance of bustling Crouch End town, one of London’s hidden gems.

Here’s what it looked like!
