In 2009 me and my husband bought this 2-storey period house close to Wimbledon. It needed a lot of updating and some re-structuring but we thought it had great potential and it was a great investment.
We started by opening the chimney breast and bringing the original fireplace back to life in the front room. We bought a limestone mantel from Chesney’s (www.chesneys.com) and also added some custom made shelves to the alcoves. The floor needed replacing but we needed to do the kitchen re-structuring first.
Here’s the work in progress fireplace and shelving:
There was a very small bathroom at the end of the kitchen which was completely out of place and needed demolishing so we decided we’d need to turn one of the bedrooms upstairs into the master bathroom before we start the demolishing. That was our next project!
Here’s what the bedroom looked like before we turned it into the master bathroom:
I designed the layout of the bathroom and where everything would like to go and discussed the plan with the contractors to make sure everything would work with the existing plumbing and the diversions we’d need to create to accommodate the shower, free standing bathtub and basin. Everything had to work around the toilet because of the location of the sewage pipes.
We also decided to add underfloor heating and recessed cans on the ceiling. I also wanted to make the bathroom look spacious and without clutter so I decided against a vanity. I couldn’t find the right floating vanity so I asked the contractors to build one and dress it with tiles! I was so happy with the end result!
